Dan Hellie

Dan Hellie is the Sports Director for WRC-TV (NBC) in Washington, D.C. He also hosts Daily Connection and, Redskins Showtime, and the Redskins coach’s show during football season.
Hellie has deep roots in the Washington area. He was raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he played football, baseball, and basketball for Magruder High School. He met his wife, Anne, at Magruder, and they have two children.
Hellie was born in the Philippines where his parents were serving in the Peace Corps. He graduated from the University of Tennessee and landed his first broadcasting job in Alexandria, Minnesota. Following that, he worked in Florence, South Carolina, West Palm Beach, Florida, and, most recently, Orlando, where he anchored the 6:00pm and 11:00pm newscasts weekdays and hosted SportsNight 9 on Sunday nights. In 2005, Hellie was named AP Sportscaster of the Year in Florida.
He and his family live in Montgomery County.
